SUNSCREENS
The idea of protection from the intense heat and light of the sun is one we have pondered long and hard at Ananda & Suns. We love the sun, the light...that's why we chose this climate! Yet our furniture, art, and rugs fade and our rooms become so heated we avoid using them. At one time in hot climates such as ours houses were deliberately designed to increase shade...not so in our crawling sprawl! Sunscreens are just that......they provide screens that block a percentage of the sun's rays and therefore the accompanying light and heat.
Sunscreens come in many colors and densities. When placed on the outside of a window, a skylight, or a sunroom, they block the sun's heat BEFORE it enters the structure. The exterior application is the most effective way to lower the interior temperature and will dramatically affect air-conditioning needs.
However, sunscreens can also be highly effective in interior applications in dealing with heat and glare.
