Call it what you want -- sunroom, solarium, greenhouse, atrium, or conservatory but what you really have is a passive solar collector.
Even with advances in glass technology, in this climate and altitude the glass room is too hot in the summer when the sun is overhead and too cool in the winter after the sun goes down. Thermal Designs™ shade systems provides a great year-round option to these temperature extremes.
- The insulated shades utilize a mylar energy barrier on the back side and a Sunbrella™ fabric on the face.
- A thickness of Thinsulate™ can be added between the two materials to create a heavier insulating value.
In the heat of the summer, the shades are lowered to cover the overhead glass. In winter, the shades are up in the daytime to maximize solag gain, then lowered at night to keep the heat in. These shading systems can be motorized with remote control options as well as sun sensors which automatically operate your shades as the weather dictates.
